Customized English for the Workplace

Spring Institute for Intercultural Learning can provide customized English or Spanish classes for your employees. English classes help entry level employees communicate better with patients, their co-workers, and management. They also help them better understand:

  • The organization’s mission and vision
  • Policies and procedures
  • Safety procedures and manufacturing processes
  • Technology-based systems for managing workflow
  • Employee benefits

This understanding results in improved customer service, employee satisfaction, productivity, and employee retention.

Spanish classes for supervisors, human resources staff members, and other employees demonstrate the commitment the company has to a diverse workforce and their contributions to the organization.

Spring Institute has offered customized education and training to private and public organizations for nearly four decades. Most recently, we offered a Spanish class to medical professionals at St. Joseph Hospital in Denver and English classes to employees at the Littleton Adventist Hospital.

We also launched the Hospitality Workstyles program funded by the Denver Office of Economic Development (OED) with Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Title I funds in July 2016. These classes were offered free of charge during the 2016-17 program year and were open to community members who were work authorized City of Denver residents and TANF eligible. The classes were 12 weeks long, and participants were given an opportunity to study a wide range of hospitality topics, such as customer service and effective interpersonal communication.

Testimonial from Hospitality Workstyles participant:
“The hospitality class has helped me a lot. Before I came to America, I studied English in school, but the classes focused on the grammar, not practical English. We didn’t have the practice at all and I couldn’t understand people when I came here. It was really hard in the beginning. Spring Institute has helped me with this. I had to learn to communicate without overthinking.”

Classes are offered onsite at the customer’s location by qualified instructors. First, we conduct an initial needs assessment to identify the specific language needs of the organization. Based on the results, we customize and design a curriculum. A typical schedule is 30 instructional hours in 10 weeks, e.g. classes twice per week for 1.5 hours each. The schedule can be adjusted to meet the customer’s needs.
